Zapata Overview
The Zapata peninsula is a nature reserve located on the central south coast mainland of Cuba reachable by a three hour drive from Havana. It is one of the most important ecosystems in Cuba and the largest swampland preserve in the Caribbean islands, is in southern Matanzas Province. It contains exceptional species of flora and fauna, many of which are endemic. The Montemar Great Natural Park is located on the peninsula. Here, you will find beaches, woods, mangrove swamps, rivers, lakes, flooded caves which open on the sea, natural pools and a seabed of particular beauty. In short, it's an ideal place for day and night scuba diving by both beginners and experienced divers, including the exploration of marine caves. One of the park's main attractions is its system of caves that extends along the coast for 70 km (over 43 miles). Some of the roofs of these caves have fallen in, turning them into semicircular lakes called cenotes. The park is also an excellent place in which to go hiking, horseback riding and boating. In addition, many animals live here, and the international flyways of several kinds of birds go over the park, so you can see both native and migratory species. While in you're in the area, Guamá-a restored Taino Indian village on Tesoro (Treasure) Lake-the crocodile-breeding center and the Playa Girón (Bay of Pigs) Museum are absolute musts Cuba Peninsula de Zapata Cuba.
Here is some of the best fishing in Cuba with spinning and fly-fishing on the Rio Hatiguanico for tarpon, snook and jack, and saltwater fly fishing for bonefish and permit on the flats at Las Salinas. Las Salinas has the most prolific bone fishing in Cuba with hordes of hungry bonefish (average 4-5 pounds), permit, barracuda and snapper. The boats in Las Salinas are for one person per skiff which is punted by your personal fishing guide. At Rio Hatiguanico, upto two persons per motorised boat with a personal fishing guide. We plan your programme to spend two full days at each fishing site. We have also sourced 4wd hire vehicles, to provide the correct methods of safe comfortable transport to and around these remote areas. All our fishing guides are locals with over 10 years experience.

Bone, Tarpon and Permit fishing is all year with the peak season between October and April.
Accommodation at the hotel is in bungalows located on a small beach. Each bungalow comes with its own adjoining toilet and shower. Meals are served in the hotel restaurant. There is a bar which serves as a social point for the evenings. This hotel makes a great centre for anglers, their families and friends (prices for non-fishing persons on request ).
Hotel Playa Larga is on a white sand beach, at one end of the " Bay of Pigs". Recommended for bird watching and lovers of water sports, Hotel Playa Larga has 41 rooms in small bungalows with bath, sitting room, fridge, TV, and hot water.
