This festivity of percussion pays tribute to one of the cult figures of Cuban percussion: Guillermo Barreto, star of the Tropicana orchestra in the 1950s and founding member of the Orquesta Cubana de Música Moderna. While young talents measure their skills during the competition, experts disclose the secrets of the complex Cuban percussion at master classes, and the evenings are set aside for the performances of popular national and international bands and soloists. Performers from the US, Brazil, Uruguay, Norway and Canada will be participating alongside Cuban musicians. Three competitions will be held during the event: the percussion competition will be open to musicians of all ages and nationalities in five different modalities and instruments, the Casino dance competition for all ages, and the Rumba dance competition for dancers 15 and older.
